Make It A Double

The New York Liberty captured a win in it’s matinee match-up against the Washington Mystics on Thursday to start the season with a 2-0 record, the first time since the 1999 season. Fans in Madison Square Garden were once again entertained by the amazing shooting efforts of the Liberty, as four players finished in double figures for the second consecutive game. Erin Thorn and Shameka Christon led the scoring charge for New York with 17 a piece. Thorn’s red hot hands from the season opener had not yet cooled off, as she connected on four of six treys in Thursday’s outing. Cathrine Kraayeveld added 16 and Barbara Farris came off the bench to score 11 points and grab six boards.

When asked about the Liberty kicking off the 2007 campaign with a 2-0 start, Christon remarked, “We couldn’t ask for a better start. We can grow as a team and build on these two wins that we have. We are all so excited about this season and I think it’s shown in our game and we just want to progress and keep moving up.”

New York had another stellar showing from beyond-the-arc, connecting on 10 three-pointers on Thursday.
