A Letter to Liberty Fans
Dear Liberty Family,
As a 12-year-old growing up in Paterson, NJ, I quickly became a New York Liberty fan when the team launched as an original member of the WNBA. In fact, I still have my Teresa Weatherspoon bobblehead, as I would assume many of you do. Imagine my excitement last year when I found out that I was going to have my very own bobblehead! Never in my wildest dreams as a youngster did I think that I would don a Liberty uniform, but then my name was announced in the 2008 draft as the #7 pick…headed to OUR New York Liberty! And then to have a bobblehead? I still pinch myself!
So it is with an incredible amount of pride that I share with you this press release announcing my new multi-year contract with the Liberty. Just as I couldn’t imagine playing for the Liberty as a kid, as an adult who has played my entilre 5-year career in New York, I can’t imagine playing anywhere else. I know that every team says that they have the best fans in the league, but I am confident that we do. Yes, New Yorkers are demanding, but we are also loyal. We lift each other up and push ourselves to be the best that we can be, representing the best city in the world. Your confidence in me means everything. It allows me to play my game knowing that you “have my back.”
I look forward to the day that I can hoist the WNBA Championship trophy over my head –that will be the ultimate payback for all of the support you have shown me over the years.
