Dishin' With Plenette Pierson

Plenette Pierson dishes about her life off of the court and even shares something most people donít know about her.

Of all of your achievements on the court, which one are you most proud of and why?
Winning the 6th Woman Of The Year Award in 2007 when I was with the Detroit Shock. Itís a testament to myself and to hard work. Itís not only about points; it also takes other things to impact the game in order to win. I think it shows young girls that not everyone can score points or be the star, but there is always room for that person who wants to be a team player.

What can you be found doing on an off day?
On an off day you can find me around my apartment resting my body or doing small chores. I might also see a show on Broadway in the city. The last show I saw was Motown the Musical. I find out about shows either by surfing the Internet or just looking at Ticketmaster. I like Broadway musicals because it is pure talent on display. To be able to depict something through dance and music is special.

What kind of music do you enjoy?
I put on Pandora. I may put on ďTroopĒ as the artist, (laughs) yep, thatís what Iím into right now. If you donít know about it, google it, because thatís some good old school hip-hop and R&B.

Tell us about one fun event you attended this summer.
I went to the Beyonce and Jay-Z ďOn The RunĒ concert on July 12th at MetLife Stadium! I went with my friends and Beyonce blew us away! The whole feel and atmosphere in the stadium was amazing. I felt like I was the one on stage, singing and dancing to all the songs!

Is there a celebrity that you admire? Who?
I admire Beyonce, Sanaa Lathan and Gabrielle Union. They embody strength, power, and intelligence, qualities that we need to bring out of our African-American girls and women today. We need to carry ourselves with the utmost respect.

Who is the person you speak to on the phone the most?
My mom. She calls me at least three to four times a day. My mom wants to talk about everything with me and share all of her gossip. I feel like an old lady sometimes (laughs). She just likes to hear my voice; she misses me. Also my seven-year-old nephew, Cleven, calls all the time. He just got a cell phone so heíll call to talk about camp that day, Jordan sneakers he wants, or to ask me when Iím going to come home to see him.

How do you prefer to communicate with people? For example: do you prefer to use Facebook or a phone call?
In this order: Text, phone call, email, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook.

What do you miss most about your hometown?
I live in Georgia now, but Iím from Houston, Texas. I miss my family and friends and I really miss the food. I love Mexican food; I could eat it seven days a week and I wouldnít get tired of it. I like the rice, beans, enchiladas, and tostadas.

What is one thing people donít know about you?
Iím a big teddy bear. Iím a softie. I like arts and crafts and scrapbooking. Iím the type that if there is a baby shower to go to, I will be the one who makes the gift basket from scratch.
