U.S. College Tour Begins With Win
After completing an excursion through Russia with the U.S. Select Team, which wrapped its run at the FIBA World League Championship title over the weekend, Liberty point guard Loree Moore joined the national team in College Park on Wednesday evening. Moore did not play, due to a sore knee.
With Moore on the sidelines, point guard Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs) steered the U.S. squad to victory with 17 points and 8 assists. Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx) and Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) netted 16 and 15 points, respectively. The storyline of the game was the return of Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles Sparks), who participated in her first game in more than a year. Leslie pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and chipped in eight points.
“We are really excited to get this college tour off to a good start,” remarked USA and Seattle Storm head coach Anne Donovan. "We felt like we had a really good second half. Every day we're going to get better, we have three new players, one of which is Lisa, that joined us after Russia.”
The next stop on the college tour is a visit to the University of Connecticut on Friday, November 2nd (7:30PM). The game will mark a homecoming for U.S. national team members Swin Cash (Detroit Shock), Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), and Taurasi, all of whom are Husky alumni.
