Christon Named 2009 WNBA All-Star Reserve

NEW YORK, NY -- July 20 -- New York Liberty forward and tri-captain Shameka Christon has been named an Eastern Conference reserve for the 2009 WNBA All-Star Game, a first in her sixth season as a professional. The All-Star Game will tip-off at Mohegan Sun at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25th and will be nationally televised on ABC.

Christon is the 10th player in franchise history to be named a WNBA All-Star. Through 12 games this season, she is averaging a career-best and team-high 19.0 points per game and is one of the WNBA's top 10 leading scorers. Christon is currently New York's second leading rebounder with 4.8 rebounds per outing and is shooting .500-percent from three-point range. This summer she has scored in double figures eight times, including a career-high 32 points in Sunday night's victory over Atlanta.

The Hot Springs, AK native has been New York's leading scorer since 2007 and is currently ranked amongst 14 of the franchise's all-time statistical categories. She recently surpassed the 2,000-point mark on Sunday against Atlanta to become the fourth all-time scoring leader with 2,009 total career points. Christon was originally selected by the Liberty with the fifth overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft
