Weatherspoon and the Liberty Celebrate Black History Month

February 3, 2003 - Teresa Weatherspoon and the New York Liberty will host a Black History Month lunch for 10 students, members of the Cheering for Children New York Liberty Club from P.S. 194 in Harlem. The event will be held at Sylvia’s Restaurant starting at 3:00 p.m.

Weatherspoon will share the life and accomplishments of Track & Field star Wilma Rudolph, one of her role models, to the group of students. Additionally the group will discuss the significance of Wilma Rudolph to Black History while enjoying a lunch, compliments of Sylvia’s, the legendary Harlem restaurant.

After overcoming a serious childhood disease, Rudolph became the first American and African American woman to win three medals in one Olympics.

Weatherspoon an career paths. (I.e., both are; originally from the south, hold numerous medals, excelled in several sports, role models for young athletes,etc).
