Vickie Johnson Re-signs With Liberty
As the last original New York Liberty player, Johnson started all 34 regular season games in addition to five playoff games during the 2004 WNBA season, while shooting .413 from the floor and .886 from the free throw line. She recorded a season-high 18 points vs. Seattle on June 24th and scored in double figures on 14 separate occasions.
Johnson, 32, ranks first on the Liberty’s all-time career list in points scored (2,893), games played (248), minutes played (7,927) and field-goals made (1,115). She became the first New York Liberty player and 11th WNBA player to record 2,000 career points on July 12, 2002 and is currently 107 points shy of the 3,000 points milestone.
“There is no doubt that Vickie is the heart and soul of the New York Liberty organization," said Blazejowski. "We will look to her veteran leadership during 2005 to help us reach our ultimate goal of winning a WNBA Championship.”
As per team policy conditions of the contract were not released.
The New York Liberty basketball team is in its ninth year of operation with the 2005 season. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns Madison Square Garden, L.P., which includes MSG Network; FSN New York; the New York Knicks (NBA); the New York Rangers (NHL); the New York Liberty (WNBA); Radio City Entertainment; the Hartford Wolf Pack (American Hockey League), and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area.
