Liberty Sign Frett to Replacement Contract


Greenburgh, NY (July 16, 2004) - New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today the signing of veteran La’Keshia Frett to a replacement contract.

Due to injuries to Liberty centers Tari Phillips and Ann Wauters, the New York Liberty were granted an emergency hardship exception by the WNBA and have used it to sign Frett to a replacement contract.

Frett, a 6-3 forward, was originally signed by the Liberty to a seven-day contract on Friday, July 9, 2004. The six-year WNBA veteran has played two games for New York averaging 5.1 points and 2.1 steals per game in 13.5 minutes per contest.

Conditions of the contract were not released per team policy.

The New York Liberty basketball team, in its eighth year of operation with the 2004 season, is part of the Madison Square Garden, L.P. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in the MSG L.P., which also include the New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Rangers (NHL), the Hartford Wolfpack (American Hockey League), the MSG Network, Fox Sports New York and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area.
