Houston’s Second Half Leads Lynx Past Stars

Minnesota 90, San Antonio 78

MINNEAPOLIS, June 8 (AP) -- Rookie Charde Houston scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half to help the Minnesota Lynx hold off the San Antonio Silver Stars 90-78 on Sunday.

Houston scored seven consecutive points in a nearly seven-minute second-half stretch while her teammates went cold, keeping the Lynx ahead throughout before a 20-5 run midway through the fourth quarter put San Antonio away.

Seimone Augustus scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the first half as Minnesota (6-1) shook off its first loss of the season Friday at Connecticut and remained undefeated in three home games.

Rookie Candice Wiggins also scored in double figures for the Lynx with 17, hitting 13 of 14 free throws.

Ann Wauters matched her career high with 24 points and added 10 rebounds for the Silver Stars (3-4), who were playing without leading scorer Sophia Young because of a strained groin.

Becky Hammon also scored in double-figures for San Antonio with 14, but the Silver Stars' second leading scorer this season shot just 3-for-16 from the floor. Erin Buescher chipped in 10.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Lynx jumped ahead by as many as 13 points in the third quarter. But Wauters scored seven points as the Silver Stars closed the quarter on an 11-4 run to cut their deficit to six.

The lead shrunk to one on Hammon's three-pointer with 9:12 to play, but Houston scored a layup on the next possession to start Minnesota's 20-5 run.

San Antonio fell to 0-4 on the road this season.
