MINNEAPOLIS, June 24 (Ticker) -- The New York Liberty's balanced attack
slowed down the Minnesota Lynx.
Barbara Farris scored a career-high 20 points to pace five
players in double figures as the Liberty captured their second
straight victory, 93-83, over the Lynx.
Farris added eight rebounds and Becky Hammoncollected 16 points
and a season-high eight assists for the Liberty, who improved
to 2-7 on the road this season.
Kelly Schumacher posted her first double-double of the season
with 13 points and 10 rebounds and reserve guard Sherill Baker
scored 13 for New York, which posted a season high in points
scored.
The Liberty jumped out to a quick 13-point lead and led, 27-13,
after the first quarter behind Shameka Christon's nine points.
Behind nine points from rookie phenom Seimone Augustus, the Lynx
erased the deficit on a 19-2 run in the second quarter to take
a 36-35 lead into halftime. New York was held scoreless for
5:19 during the burst.
Baker hit a 3-pointer as time expired in the third quarter that
extended the Liberty's lead to 58-53. New York pulled away on a
Farris' lay-up with 1:58 to play that extended their lead to
79-65.
Augustus scored 29 points on 12-of-28 shooting and Adrian Williams added a career-high 13 rebounds for Minnesota, which
has lost two straight and four of their last five.
Next Games: The New York Liberty host the Charlotte Sting on Wednesday, while the Minnesota Lynx play at the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday.
