Mabika Leads Surging Sparks Past Monarchs
SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 23 (Ticker) -- Mwadi Mabika and the Los Angeles Sparks hardly had to sweat to extend their winning streak.
Mabika scored 24 points as the red-hot Sparks cruised to a 77-63 triumph over the defending champion Sacramento Monarchs.
Chamique Holdsclaw collected 12 points and eight rebounds while fellow reserve Doneeka Hodges-Lewis scored 10 points for Los Angeles, which avoided its third straight road loss.
Sacramento, which entered with a three-game home winning streak, shot 47 percent (8-of-17) in the opening quarter and ended the session with a 22-20 lead.
But the Monarchs struggled offensively thereafter and finished the contest just 36 percent (20-of-56) from the floor.
Scholanda Dorrell scored 15 points and Yolanda Griffith added 14 for Sacramento, which has lost both meetings with Los Angeles this season.
Next Games: The Monarchs host the Fever on Sunday, while the Sparks host the Silver Stars.
