A key contributor on Los Angeles' championship squads in 2001 and 2002, Mabika has been slowed by knee injuries over the past two seasons. But the veteran guard was outstanding Wednesday, scoring 15 points in the first half and shooting 7-of-9 from the floor in the contest.

Leslie shot 9-of-19 but dished out a season-high five assists and also blocked three shots. Temeka Johnson added a season-high 19 points and six assists while reserve Chamique Holdsclaw scored 13 in her season debut for the Sparks, who snapped a two-game skid.

Detroit trailed by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter but drew within 79-75 on Swin Cash's layup with 1:37 remaining. But the Sparks held on down the stretch to extend their home winning streak against the Shock to six games.

Ruth Riley scored 19 points and Cash added 15 for Detroit, which fell to 1-2 on its four-game road trip.
