Augustus Leads Lynx Past Shorthanded Fever
MINNEAPOLIS, June 2 (Ticker) -- Rookie Seimone Augustus scored 12 of her season-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Minnesota Lynx to a 92-87 victory over the shorthanded Indiana Fever.
The top overall pick in the WNBA draft, Augustus has led the Lynx in scoring in each game. She scored 26 points in Wednesday's rout of Los Angeles and eclipsed that by making 13-of-24 shots.
Playing without injured star forward Tamika Catchings, the Fever closed to 87-85 with 1:08 remaining on a basket by Tamika Whitmore, who scored a season-high 26 points.
However, Augustus answered with a jumper that made it a four-point game with 37 seconds to play, and Minnesota held on.
Amber Jacobs scored 16 points and Nicole Ohlde added 13 and 14 rebounds for the Lynx, who shot 53 percent (33-of-62), including 7-of-12 from the arc. Jacobs made four 3-pointers.
Anna DeForge scored 18 points and La'Tangela Atkinson added 15 for the Fever, who shot 51 percent (35-of-69) but received just five points from their bench. Indiana is 4-0 with Catchings and 0-2 without her.
