Augustus Leads Lynx to Landmark Win Over Sparks
MINNEAPOLIS, May 31 (Ticker) -- Hotshot rookie Seimone Augustus registered her first WNBA win in record-setting fashion.
Augustus scored a season-high 26 points in just three quarters as the Minnesota Lynx established the WNBA record for points in a game and set a handful of club records in a 114-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Augustus scored 11 points to help Minnesota open a 24-16 lead after one period. She scored another 12 in the third quarter, when the Lynx scored 33 points and widened a 17-point halftime advantage to 84-48.
Svetlana Abrosimova scored 21 points off the bench and Kristen Mann added 18 for the Lynx, who shot 56 percent (39-of-70) from the field and had six players in double figures. Minnesota made 15-of-22 from the arc.
Minnesota set franchise records for points, baskets and victory margin. The previous marks had been 95 points vs. Los Angeles in 2001, 32 baskets vs. Seattle in 2004 and a 27-point win vs. San Antonio in 2003.
Tamara Moore scored 18 points and Lisa Willis added 12 for the Sparks (3-2), who shot 41 percent (24-of-59) and were outrebounded, 41-24. Los Angeles has lost four of its last six meetings with Minnesota.
Coming off three straight double-doubles, Sparks center Lisa Leslie was limited to eight points and four rebounds. She came in leading the WNBA in both categories.
