HOUSTON, May 31 (Ticker) -- The Indiana Fever's bid for their first 5-0 start 5-0 was over just after tip-off.

Dominique Canty scored a career-high 24 points as the Houston Comets took advantage of the absence of Tamika Catchings to post a 73-60 rout of the previously unbeaten Fever.

Out of Indiana's lineup for the first time since August 14, 2001, Catchings had a franchise-record streak of 138 games played snapped due to a moderate arch sprain in her right foot.

With the reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year absent, the Comets scored the first 11 points and held a 22-8 advantage after one quarter. The lead eventually grew to 19 points, the last time at 48-29 on a jumper by Kayte Christensen with 3:48 remaining in the third period.

With Houston pulling its starters, Indiana closed to 63-56 on a basket by Tamika Whitmore with 1:09 left. However, the Comets (3-1) sealed their third straight win on free throws.

Canty went 9-of-11 from the field and Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson scored 12 points apiece for Houston, which shot 47 percent (28-of-59). The Comets have not trailed in their last two wins.

Whitmore scored 19 points and Ebony Hoffman chipped in 13 for the Fever, who went 0-of-13 on 3-pointers in falling to 0-7 here since 2000.
