AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 30 (Ticker) -- Cheryl Ford scored 19 points to lead a balanced attack as the Detroit Shock set a franchise record for assists in an 88-79 victory over the New York Liberty.

Swin Cash scored 15 points and Ruth Riley added 12 for the Shock, who had five players score in double figures. Cash and Elaine Powell each had seven assists as Detroit collected 28.

The Shock never trailed, taking control with a 14-4 run to open the game. Cash scored nine points in the first half, which ended with Detroit holding a 44-31 lead.

In the opening period, Detroit shot 51 percent (19-of-37) from the field while holding New York to 36 percent (11-of-29).

The Shock took their largest lead at 75-54 with 6:50 left on a hoop by Merlakia Jones, who scored 10 points. The Liberty got no closer than six points thereafter.

Becky Hammon and Elena Baranova scored 12 points apiece for the Liberty, who also had five players in double figures but had a three-game winning streak snapped. They lost to the Shock for the first time in three meetings this season.
