LOS ANGELES, July 17 (Ticker) -- Yolanda Griffith, Tangela Smith and the Sacramento Monarchs were not intimidated by playing the league-leading Los Angeles Sparks on the road.

Griffith scored 15 points and Smith 14 to help the Monarchs snap the Sparks' season-high six-game winning streak, 79-70.

Ticha Penicheiro added 13 points, including a double-clutch jumper with 37 seconds left to open a 73-68 lead, for Sacramento, which rallied from a nine-point deficit late in the first half.

Lisa Leslie had 20 points in the first half but just two after the break for the Sparks, who were routed at Sacramento on June 3, 68-51. Leslie also grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Sparks lost despite shooting 51 percent (25-of-49) and limiting the Monarchs to 39 percent (26-of-67).
