UNCASVILLE, Conn., June 30 (Ticker) -- Rookie Lindsay Whalen ran a phenomenal floor game to lead the Connecticut Sun to their fifth straight victory, a 78-69 triumph over the Washington Mystics.

Whalen took just one shot but finished with 10 points, seven assists and just two turnovers. She was one of five starters in double figures for Connecticut (9-7), which never trailed as it maintained first place in the Eastern Conference.

Frontcourt players Nykesha Sales, Wendy Palmer and Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 13 points each and Katie Douglas added 11 for the Sun, who never trailed.

Connecticut led 38-34 at halftime behind nine points from Palmer. The Sun began the second half with an 8-0 burst capped by two 3-pointers by Douglas - her only baskets - for a 46-34 advantage with 17:58 left.

A basket by Sales gave the Sun their largest lead at 62-47 with 5:47 to go.

Chamique Holdsclaw scored 21 points but committed eight turnovers for the Mystics, who went 1-3 on their road trip.
