Leslie, Milton Cure What Ails Sparks
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 14 (Ticker) -- Lisa Leslie and DeLisha Milton returned from injury for the Los Angeles Sparks, who extended their winning streak over the Minnesota Lynx to 15 games with an 87-83 victory.
Milton led the Sparks with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a game that featured six ties in the final 20 minutes. Los Angeles led by as many as nine points with 3:46 remaining and matched that advantage with 2:40 left.
Leslie scored 19 points in her return from the right knee injury she suffered in the All-Star Game. The Sparks went just 4-7 in her absence.
Nikki Teasley added 15 points and 11 assists, and Tamecka Dixon had 14 points as Los Angeles improved to 20-10.
Tamika Williams' layup with 15.8 seconds remaining got Minnesota within two points, 85-83. But Dixon made two free throws with 8.6 seconds left to close the game.
Svetlana Abrosimova scored 15 points and Katie Smith collected 14 points and six assists for the Lynx, who had their seven-game home winning streak snapped.
Teresa Edwards and Sheri Sam each scored 13 points. Sam became the 25th player in WNBA history to score 2,000 points when she buried a 22-foot jumper with 6:30 to go in the first half.
