Indiana closed to 57-55 on two free throws by Tamika Catchings with 4:57 left, but Sam scored Minnesota's next nine points. Her three-pointer gave the Lynx a 66-59 cushion with 1:57 to go.

Catchings paced Indiana with 20 points, including the 1,000th of her career with 8:13 left in the first half.

Katie Smith scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half for Minnesota, which has taken both meetings with Indiana this season.

Smith, who has made a three-pointer in a WNBA-record 30 straight games, was 7-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.

The Fever were trying to become the first WNBA team to win 10 home games but shot under 32 percent from the field (21-for-66) and failed to take full advantage of 19 turnovers by the Lynx.

Minnesota shot 48 percent from the field (25-for-52), including 7-for-15 from three-point range. Indiana converted just 3-for-22 three-pointers.
