MINNEAPOLIS, May 24 (Ticker) -- Svetlana Abrosimova got off to a fast start and Kristi Harrower and Katie Smith provided a dramatic finish for the Minnesota Lynx.

Playing their first game under coach Suzie McConnell Serio, the Lynx secured a 72-71 victory over the Sacramento Monarchs when Smith made a free throw with 8.7 seconds left.

Minnesota trailed 67-57 with 7:19 left after a layup by Tangela Smith. But the Lynx tied it with a 10-0 run fueled by Harrower's only six points.

Abrosimova, a career 38 percent shooter, made her first eight shots before finally missing a pair before halftime. She scored 19 of her 23 points in the first half, but Minnesota trailed 44-38 at the break.

Minnesota trailed after 20 minutes despite opening the game with 11 of the first 15 points and leading by as many as eight.

Katie Smith scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half and added six assists. Her free throw gave the Lynx their only lead of the second half.

Tangela Smith, who scored 11 points in Sacramento's season-opening victory over Phoenix on Thursday, had 14 of her 24 points in the first half.
