Game Preview: Fever vs. Shock

It is winner-take-all tonight as the Indiana Fever (1-1) looks for its first berth in the WNBA Finals when it meets the Detroit Shock (1-1) in a deciding Game 3 tonight (7:00 p.m., 1070 The Fan, NBATV, WNBA LiveAccess) at Conseco Fieldhouse. The loser is eliminated.

Last Meeting (September 26, 2009): The Fever had a WNBA Playoff record 18 steals to help defeat the Detroit Shock, 79-75. Tamika Catchings filled the stat sheet yet again with team-highs of 22 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists. Rookie Briann January scored all 12 of her points in the second half, helping to put the Shock away. Deanna Nolan scored 23 points on 7-for-19 shooting.

Stats and Trends:

  • Tamika Catchings leads the WNBA Playoffs in rebounds (12.0 per game) and steals (3.5 per game). She also is fifth among playoff participants in scoring and fifth in assists.

  • The Fever shot 45 percent from the field last night against Detroit. The Fever is 11-0 when shooting over 45 percent this season.

  • The Fever set a WNBA Playoffs record with 18 steals last night, including a postseason career-high six from Tamika Catchings and five from Katie Douglas. The Fever tied league records with 12 steals in the first half and seven in the first period. Catchings tied the individual playoffs mark for steals for steals in a half, with five before intermission.

    WNBA FINALS Tonight’s winners between Indiana-Detroit and Phoenix-Los Angeles will advance to the WNBA Finals which begin next Tuesday. If the Fever advances to play Phoenix, the Fever’s first home game will be Sunday, Oct. 4. Should the Fever advance to play Los Angeles, the Fever will host Games 1 and 2, next Tuesday and Thursday evening.
