Katie Douglas to Miss Remainder of 2013 Postseason

INDIANAPOLIS Indiana Fever star Katie Douglas will miss the remainder of the 2013 WNBA Playoffs due to the same lower back injury that has hampered her throughout the season.

Douglas was diagnosed with a bulging disc in her lower back in early June, after playing the first two games of the regular season. She returned to the club on the final weekend of the regular season, playing games against New York and Connecticut, but aggravated the injury again in practice on September 18, just two days prior to the Eastern Conference Semifinals opener against Chicago.

Douglas did not play in Fridays game at Chicago and will miss the rest of the season. The Fever hosts Game 2 of the East Semifinals on Sunday (3:00 p.m., Bankers Life Fieldhouse).

One of the most prominent stars in the WNBA, Douglas is the second-leading scorer in franchise history. She ranks ninth all-time among league scoring leaders and is fifth in 3-point field goals and steals. In fact, Douglas and teammate Tamika Catchings are the only players in league history to amass over 500 3-pointers and 500 steals.

In 56 career playoff games, she is second in league history in 3-point field goals, third in steals and fourth all-time in total points.

Douglas is one of four Fever players who have missed extended time due to injury this season. In all, nine different Fever players have missed time due to injury this season, including each of the clubs top seven scorers from its 2012 championship team.

With Jessica Davenport already ruled out for the season with a left tibia stress fracture, the Fever will continue their playoff run with just nine players. Ironically, it was with nine players and after two injuries in the playoffs last season that the resilient Fever endured the hardship to win their first title.
