INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever has waived third-round draft pick Courtney Hurt and free agent Jenna Smith as the club continues its first week of training camp.
Hurt, the nation’s leading rebounder out of Virginia Commonwealth, was the 34th selection in the WNBA Draft on April 16. Smith was a former star at the University of Illinois who was signed as a training camp free agent last month.
The current Fever roster includes 14 players currently and will be trimmed to 11 players by May 18. Still absent from training camp are veterans Jessica Davenport, Katie Douglas and Erin Phillips who have recently finished play overseas in Russia and Poland. The three players are expected to arrive in Indianapolis this weekend.
The Fever travels to San Antonio this Saturday, May 5 for a preseason game against the Silver Stars, then hosts San Antonio on Wednesday, May 9 (12:00 p.m.) for a preseason home game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana opens its 13th regular season with an Eastern Conference Finals rematch against the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, May 19 (7:00 p.m.).
