Overseas Updates

December 9, 2013: Indiana Fever guard/forward Karima Christmas was named EuroBasket.com Player of the Week in the Israeli league for her monster performance last week against a team featuring her Fever teammate.

Christmas had a rare 20-20 double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 21 rebounds to lead Maccabi Ramat Hen to a 74-52 victory over Elitzur Netanya on Dec. 2. The Duke University graduate converted 8-of-10 two-point shots on the night and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive glass and she also blocked three shots.

Christmas' big night came against a familiar face. Elitzur Netanya features Jasmine Hassell, who recently finished her rookie season with the Fever. Hassell played 28 minutes against Maccabi Ramat Hen, scoring 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting and collecting six rebounds.

Both Christmas and Hassell rank among the Israeli league's statistical leaders. Christmas is seventh in points per game, averaging 17.3 points in seven contests. Hassell is 10th in the league, averaging 16.2 points per game. Christmas leads the entire league in rebounding, averaging 13.4 boards per game, over 1.5 rebounds more than the next-best average.

November 13, 2013: Karima currently leads the Israeli League with 14.3 boards per game, followed by her teammate Jasmine Hassell with 12.0. And who is fourth in rebounding and fifth in scoring? None other than Jessica Breland who completed 30 games with the Fever last summer.

While Elitzur leads the Israeli League at 2-0, Christmas and Ramat Hen are 2-1, tied with Breland’s Bnot Hertzeilya team.

Hassell and Christmas both produced double-doubles in their last two games. Hassell registered games of 23 points and 13 rebounds, and 14 points with 11 boards. Karima’s last two games featured 20 points and 15 rebounds, and 11 points with a whopping 21 rebounds.
