On Tuesday, June 1, the Indiana Fever hosted its Fever Go Green Community Event in partnership with Central Indiana Commuter Service and Green Vista Landscaping. In conjunction with WNBA Green Week, Fever players and staff helped educate youth in the community on how to conserve, recycle, and live a “greener” life.

To tipoff the event, Central Indiana Commuter Services (CICS) assisted Fever players and staff by carpooling in a CICS vehicle to the event to prevent air pollution. Fever players Tully Bevilaqua, Tamika Catchings, Ebony Hoffman and Tammy Sutton-Brown spoke to youth about making greener decisions, keeping the environment clean and what people can do to help. The four veterans kept the roughly 40 kids from Indy Parks & Recreation laughing while discussing ways to protect the Earth.

After learning about reducing, reusing and recycling, the kids participated in outdoor activities with the players. Bevilaqua and Hoffman created a contest to see who could collect the most trash (or rubbage as Tully likes to call it). At the same time, Catchings and Sutton-Brown were hard at work planting flowers and laying mulch provided by Green Vista Landscaping. The children were then invited to play in the park, and enjoy the cleaner and prettier area.

The WNBA is committed to a long-term environmental plan through the implementation of sustainable business practices and procedures that decrease the league’s carbon footprint and contribute to a clean, healthy environment. The WNBA Green Initiative is an innovative program designed to reduce the environmental impact of the league’s operations.

The WNBA Green Week event hosted by the Indiana Fever was made possible by Central Indiana Commuter Services who reduce air pollution and traffic congestion by offering transportation alternatives to employers and commuters in and around the Indianapolis area. Green Vista Landscaping is a family owned and operated business specializing in residential and commercial landscaping design and installation.

In collaboration with WNBA Green Week, Central Indiana Commuter Services (CICS) presents Go Green Night supported by Green Vista Landscaping. Go Green Night takes place on Thursday, June 3 when the Fever hosts the San Antonio Silver Stars at 7:00 p.m.
