Hoffman and Catchings Named NWBL All-Stars

News Release | February 9, 2005
Indiana Fever stars Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman, competing with the Chicago Blaze of the National Women’s Basketball League, have been named among five Blaze players on the 2005 NWBL All-Star Team. Catchings, however, will not play in the All-Star Game, February 21 in Colorado, because of prior commitments.

Catchings, who plays an abbreviated schedule with the Blaze, currently averages 16.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists for the Blaze.

Hoffman, Chicago’s first-round selection in the 2005 NWBL Draft, has been a formidable presence for the Blaze during the 2005 season. The 6-foot 2-inch center has averaged 10.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg (7th in the NWBL) per contest. Hoffman's 46.3 percent (38 of 82) field goal percentage and 60.0 percent (9 of 15) 3-point shooting is currently tops on the team.

Three other Blaze players that were selected as NWBL All-Stars are Keisha Anderson, Kim Williams, and LaTonya Johnson (who also plays with the WNBA’s Houston Comets). Fever guard Coretta Brown also plays with the Blaze.

Chicago opened the 2005 season with a win over the NWBL defending champion Dallas Fury before dropping their next three contests to fall to 1-3 early on. The team has responded by winning five of its last six games to raise its record to 6-4, which is good for third place in the NWBL standings.

The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the WNBA who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season.
