Fever Waives Brown, Williams
INDIANAPOLIS – Immediately following its 89-84 preseason win over the Los Angeles Sparks, the Indiana Fever has waived Coretta Brown and Lenae Williams.
Brown had been a three-year player for the Fever, arriving in a draft day trade prior to the 2003 season when she was a first-round pick of the San Antonio Silver Stars. The highlight of her career was a 26-point effort in a double-overtime win at Connecticut as a rookie, which was the most by a WNBA rookie that season. She averaged 4.9 points per game in 62 career games for Indiana. Due in part to injuries, her playing time diminished in 2004, and she saw action in just six games in 2005.
Williams was a free agent signed by the Fever in February who, while playing in Greece last winter, averaged 19.7 points per game. Drafted in 2002 by Detroit, she appeared in 32 games for the Shock before being traded to Phoenix prior to the 2003 season. She was waived in the Mercury’s training camp and had not played in the WNBA since.
The cuts reduce the Fever’s roster to 12 players, with its regular-season roster complete.
Indiana begins the 2006 regular season when it hosts the Detroit Shock on Saturday, May 20 (7:00 p.m.).
