Camp Update

May 17, 2005
The Fever returned from Phoenix on Monday, set to begin a final week of preparation for its regular season opener, Sunday, against Charlotte. The team’s final two-a-day practice day was scheduled for Tuesday, with single workouts slated daily until the opening game.

The Fever roster, currently at 15 players, is due to be trimmed to 11 active players by Friday, May 20. Below are notes to cap the Fever’s unbeaten preseason.

  • Sunday’s opener against the Charlotte Sting (6:00 p.m.) is the first of six McDonald’s Family Nights Presented by the Indianapolis Star. Beginning as low as $40, fans can get four tickets, four T-shirts and four vouchers for hot dogs, chips and Pepsi. The first 3,000 fans also receive Fever Schedule T-Shirts, courtesy of Community Health Network.
  • The Fever exhibited considerable depth and balance during its preseason – five players averaged at least 9.5 points per game and eight players at least 7.0 ppg. Three different players – Kelly Miller, Yolanda Paige and Tamika Catchings – led the Fever in scoring during the preseason, and a total of 10 different players scored in double figures during those three games.
  • Against Detroit, five different Indiana players scored in double figures, and at Phoenix, 10 players reached the scoring column by halftime.
  • The Fever have consistently gone to the foul stripe during the preseason, and have averaged nearly 20 points better than in 2004. In 2004, Indiana averaged 13.2 points from the foul line, though in three preseason games the Fever has more than doubled that output by averaging 27.0. That increase in 13.8 free throws per game has helped the Fever average 83.0 ppg during the preseason – up from 64.6 in 2004.
  • Got a schedule? If not, mark down Sunday, May 22 (6:00 p.m.) and attend the Fever’s opening game against the Charlotte Sting. From that point forward, the Fever will offer schedule giveaways at each of its first three games!
