INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever has announced the re-signing of free agent forward/center Ebony Hoffman, matching a three-year offer presented by the Phoenix Mercury. As per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.

The 6-foot-2 Hoffman, 25, was the Fever’s top draft pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft and has completed four seasons in Indiana. She is currently playing in Istanbul, Turkey, where she teams with Indiana’s other post player, Tammy Sutton-Brown, who also re-signed with the Fever this week.

“Keeping Ebony with our core group was very important to this franchise,” said Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. “She has grown as a professional and has consistently improved her game every season. She is respected by her teammates and has become one of the recognizable faces in the community. I am very happy to have her back with us for the next few seasons.”

Annually one of the WNBA’s top rebounders off the bench, Hoffman started 10 games in 2007, while averaging 17.1 minutes in 34 regular season games. She shot a career-high 44.5 percent from the floor last season, with 4.0 rebounds per game. Hoffman, who was married in hometown Los Angeles last October, has become a mainstay on the Fever roster. She is third in franchise history with 131 games played.

Added Head Coach Lin Dunn, “We are counting on Ebony this season. I have seen her game grow steadily since we drafted her in ’04. She was our first post off the bench last season. Per 40 minutes played, she was our best rebounder and she was playing exceptionally well at the end of last season when she was injured in the playoffs. She is healthy now, and ready to help us challenge for an Eastern Conference and a WNBA championship.”

The Indiana Fever begins its ninth WNBA season by hosting the Washington Mystics on Saturday, May 17 (7:00 p.m.). Led by WNBA All-Stars Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas and Sutton-Brown, the Fever bids for its first WNBA Finals appearance after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three seasons.
