INDIANAPOLIS – Tamika Catchings and her Catch The Stars Foundation will unveil a new reading corner on Monday, July 16, at Brookside Park Family Center (3500 Brookside Park Drive South), following her WNBA All-Star appearance Sunday in Washington, D.C. The Catch The Stars Foundation has collected donated books and resource items to the new reading corner, and will provide future maintenance to the area as well as volunteers and local dignitaries as guest readers. The efforts of the Foundation are to increase literacy among Indianapolis youth by making reading fun and providing an availability of books.

Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reading segment with Catchings and Brookside Park day campers. She will be joined by Indiana Fever teammate Ebony Hoffman and members of the Catch the Stars volunteer team.

“It’s a dream come true to be able to share my love of books and reading with the Brookside community. We run our STARS and CHAMPS mentoring programs at Brookside so it means a lot to be able to add the Reading Corner,” said Catchings, an Olympic gold medalist and a five-time WNBA All-Star. This marks the second reading corner in Indianapolis, the first is located at Christel House Academy.

“Reading is so important to me, and it is definitely a key to success. We want to help provide youth with a way to grasp the excitement for reading while they are young. That way, as they grow up, reading will become an outlet for them to explore the world. This is a stepping stone for me and my Foundation. We want to continue to grow. I have always dreamed of having a center where I could help kids ‘catch their dreams one star at a time.’ This is a perfect opportunity and is truly just the beginning of what I plan to do to make a difference.”
