Dominique Canty hit a shot at the buzzer and Wisla won 65:64 over Lotos in Game 5 of the best-of-seven Polish championship series. The next game is going to take place in Gdynia on Thursday.
It was the most exiting game of finals, so far. The grandstands were full 40 minutes before start of this competition. Over 2,000 people saw Game 5 live. Interest was huge. Wisla even organized some extra seats.
Wisla started hard defensively. The players from Gdynia didnít have any place to shoot. The MVP of the last two games for Lotos, Nykesha Sales, was more or less excluded from play - Anna DeForge and Dominique Canty followed Sales like her shadow.
Four minutes before the end of the second quarter, DeForge scored a 3-pointer and after two quarters, Wisla led by six points over Lotos. But the next quarter belonged to the team of Tan White. Lotos dominated the third period, 25:8.
There was a faint hope for Wisla. But players like Anna DeForge say never. Anna led Wislaís comeback, but she didnít become the hero of the night. Four seconds before the end of the game, Sales scored a 2-point basket to regain the lead and Lotos had a 1-point advantage, 64-63. On the inbound pass for Wisla, the ball found its way to Canty, and she hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer.
DeForge scored 16 points and she also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal. White scored 12 points and she had, like Anna, five rebounds. Lotos is leading the series, 3:2. Game 6 is on Thursday.
It was fantastic show! The fans of Wisla and the fans of Lotos didnít sit during the last quarter. Anna DeForge has a big heart to fight for Wisla. It is true! Maybe Tamika Catchings is the biggest star of the Fever, but Anna is the queen of polish basketball! And Iím sure, sheíll motivate her other players to fight again in the Game 6.
