First Week of Spring Fever Concludes

March 31, 2005
The Indiana Fever kicked off its Spring Fever campaign this week with events at the Indianapolis Childrens Museum and the Indiana State Museum. These were the first of five appearances for the Spring Fever events. The campaign hopes to provide activities for children and their parents during local schools spring vacations.

On Tuesday, Coretta Brown visited the Indianapolis Childrens Museum where she read to a group of children. Set in a small area with bean bag chairs, the children and enjoyed storytime as Coretta read four books and talked with the children that visited. After reading, Coretta autographed photos for all the children present. The event was part of the Fevers Read to Achieve program that promotes the value of reading and online literacy, and encourages families and adults to read regularly with young children.

The second Spring Fever appearance took place at the Indiana State Museum Wednesday. Brown explored the Genome exhibit at the museum, interacting with kids for an hour on a number of educational puzzles and games teaching about genetics, the DNA code and other scientific facts. She signed autographs for many of the hundreds of kids that took part in the attraction.

Afterward, Brown joined guests in a special screening of The Human Body at the IMAX Theater. The educational film teaches a number of physiological facts about the human body. Once again, Brown closed the event by signing autographs.

Wednesdays events were a part of the WNBA league-wide initiative Be Smart Be Fit Be Yourself program that teaches children and adults about nutrition, exercise, positive self-image and breast health awareness.
