Brown Joins Black Expo Effort

The Indiana Fever teamed with Indiana Black Expo to present a program that combined the efforts of the WNBA's Read to Achieve and Indiana Black Expo's Black History Month initiatives.
On Feb. 14, Coretta Brown visited the Indiana Black Expo charter school, Andrew J. Brown Elementary, to read with youngsters in kindergarten through the third grade. Reading about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Brown read from a children�s book called A Sweet Smell of Roses by Angela Johnson and Eric Velasquez. After reading the book she and representatives from Indiana Black Expo answered questions about the book.
Coretta then answered questions about being a player in the WNBA. She also signed autographs and helped distribute goody bags to the children.
The Fever will host elementary classes from select schools at a similar reading event at Conseco Fieldhouse, Feb. 24. This is the second year that the Indiana Fever have partnered with Indiana Black Expo to create unique reading events for Black History Month.
