Cheryl Ford made her USA Basketball debut following her junior year of high
school as a member of the bronze medal winning 1998 USA World Youth Games Team.
The 6-3 center returned to USA Basketball six years later and assisted the 2004
USA Senior National Team in a three-game sweep over the Cuban National Team.
Ford was selected by the Detroit Shock in the first round (third overall) of
the 2003 WNBA Draft. She had an instant impact on Detroit as she averaged 10.8
points and 10.4 rebounds to assist the Shock to the franchises first championship.
She won the 2003 Rookie of the Year honors and has been named an All-Star three
times during her four year career.
