Seimone Augustus made her USA Basketball debut as a high school athlete in 2002
when she participated 2002 USA Young Women National Team Trials. As a member
2003 World Championship For Young Women Team, Augustus led the United States
to a gold medal and earned M.V.P. of the 2003 FIBA World Championship For Young
Women while starting all eight games and averaging a team best 10.6 points.
During her college basketball career at the Louisiana State University, Augustus
won her second gold medal as a member of the 2005 USA World University Games
Team by assisting USA to a perfect 7-0 record in Izmir, Turkey. The 6-1 guard
was also named to the 2006 USA Basketball Senior National Team that won first
place in the 2006 Opals World Challenge.
Augustus' WNBA career began earlier this year when she was selected first overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2006 WNBA Draft. The former Naismith Player of the Year and two-time AP Player of the Year was selected as an All-Star and was named the 2006 Rookie of the Year after averaging 21.9 points and 3.76 rebounds during her first WNBA season. Her 21.9 point average ranked her second in the WNBA in scoring, behind Diana Taurasi.
