On the Road to Houston With...
Comets legend Cynthia Cooper

With the basketball world heading to the city of Houston this week for the 2006 NBA All-Star Game, we caught up with someone who knows her way around the city, Comets and WNBA great Cynthia Cooper. Cooper led the Comets to four consecutive championships in the late 1990's, the first four in WNBA history. She briefly retired to try hand in coaching, but returned to the team again and played in 2003. She is widely considered one of the best players in history. She is now coaching on the college ranks, not far from Houston, at Prarie View A&M, but will be apart of the festivities in Houston this week along with many WNBA players past and present.

"The best place to shop is the Galleria Mall. The best place to eat is my house. No, just kidding. Perry's Steak House and Seafood House."

Q. What are your favorite WNBA cities to visit?

"Number one has to be New York. Madison Square Garden… the history of that place is incredible and I feel honored to have been able to play there. Los Angeles was also a place I liked to play because I grew up there, to be able to see some old friends and have them get to see me where I am today. Finally, I really enjoyed playing in Cleveland. I thought the fans were very knowledgeable and they loved me. And I loved them back."

Q. What is your favorite city to visit when you want to go shopping?

"I'd say New York. Best for shopping, but it's not the smartest to go shopping in. You have to wait until you get to Minnesota. The Mall of America is there…"

"I would say Phoenix. Kincaid or Poloma were great restaurants right across from the arena andseve some of the best grilled shrimp and steak and salmon."

"I've been to Italy. Hablo Italanio moto bene. I spent ten years there, but also Spain, Austria, France, the former Yugoslavia, the former Soviet Union, Greece, China, Korea. I'm already on my second or third passport. I've truly been blessed."

Q. Is there one place you'd like to see that you haven't gotten to yet?

"I'd like to go to Egypt and see the pyramids. The Mayan ruins in Mexico are great, but I'd love to get to see the beauty and awesome architecture of the pyramids."

"I love the beach, I love the water, I like to swim and snorkel. I even suntan because I can get really pale."
