Favorite Memories With my Dad

Lindsay Whalen, Connecticut Sun
"I remember going to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 1992 or whenever it was in Minneapolis back when they still had the North Stars playing there. We got to see Mike Modano and Derrian Hatcher play against Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr and sat right behind the glass. My uncle got us the tickets, but I went with my dad. Being with him there at that game was a lot of fun."

Tamika Catchings, Indiana Fever
"I remember when my dad played overseas in Italy when I was younger. He came out for this game on Father's Day and they all got flowers. It was nice. But I remember watching my dad play. It was the greatest just being there with him and getting to watch him do what he did."

Diana Taurasi, Phoenix Mercury
"My favorite memory is from back when we lived in Argentina and our local club soccer team was playing in the Finals of this really big tournament against one of the best Brazilian club teams. Soccer in Argentina is like die-hard, life and death. Literally, sometimes it can be tragic. So we went to this game and there was something like 80,000 people there in this huge stadium. People were chanting and throwing things all around us. They actually had this moat to keep fans off of the field. But when our team won, the fans tore down these big billboards and used them as bridges to cross the moat and get onto the field. My dad was running and literally holding my sister and I in each hand by our ponytails. It was just a nutty scene. So to be there, as a sports fan and a proud Argentinian with my dad was a great moment."

Cheryl Ford, Detroit Shock
"My favorite memory with my father was in 2003 when we played Los Angeles for the champonship. He was there watching me. After we won, I hugged him, we were both crying and it was great. He is a really loving dad. He truly puts family, our feelings and our needs first. He's just a great guy."

Kara Lawson, Sacramento Monarchs
"I wouldn't say that I have a favorite moment, but I remember going to football practice when I was little. I played with all of the guys, but before my first practice, I was really nervous. So my dad and I were driving in the car and I remember him telling me to go out there and just do the best I can and to not worry about the guys. He told me I'd be able to compete and that I was one of the best players out there. That really gave me a lot of confidence because I didn't know how good they were. It was like going to a new school, going into the cafeteria and not having anyone to sit with. You feel out of place, so he comforted me when I was going to practice."
