General Manager/ Head Coach Marynell Meadors adds former Olympian Katy Steding to assistant coaching staff

Atlanta Dream Names Katy Steding Assistant Coach

ATLANTA, March 25, 2008 Ė Atlantaís new WNBA franchise has named Katy Steding as assistant coach, General Manager and Head Coach Marynell Meadors announced today. Steding comes to Atlanta from her Head Coaching position at Warner Pacific College in Portland Oregon.

ďFor us to have a former WNBA player and former Olympian I think itís just awesome," said Meadors. "Itís instant credibility for our team. Itís going to be a great situation, she is going to come in and do a great job for us."

In 2001, Steding was hired by Warner Pacific College and began building a program that went to the NAIA tournament for the 1st time in school history in 2003-04 and returned to the National tournament in 2005-06. Steding led the Knights to their first Conference Championship in school history in 2005-06 and was selected Cascade Conference Coach of the Year.

Steding played for Stanford University. As a power forward, she helped lead Stanford to its first NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championship in 1990. After Stanford, Steding played basketball in Japan and Spain in the early 1990s before earning a spot on the U.S. National team, where she earned a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. With the formation of the American Basketball League in 1996, Steding returned to Oregon and became the founding player for the Portland Power. When the league folded in 1998, Steding joined the WNBA and played the 2000 season with the Sacramento Monarchs and the 2001 season with the Seattle Storm before retiring from professional basketball.

The Atlanta Dream will open their training camp on April 20. The Dream was officially announced as the 14th team in the WNBA on October 17, 2007. The Dream will begin play in May 2008 at Philips Arena, joining the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Detroit Shock, Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Washington Mystics in the Eastern Conference. The team will tip-off in its first regular season home game on Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. against defending Eastern Conference Champions the Detroit Shock.
