- Veteran forward inks multi-year extension -

ATLANTA, September 16, 2011 – The Atlanta Dream announced today the team has signed forward Sancho Lyttle to a multi-year contract extension. Per team policy, further terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are happy a player of her caliber is excited to re-sign here,” said Dream General Manager & Head Coach Marynell Meadors. “Sancho is a great player and she’s been a huge reason for our success. She’s such a versatile player with the offensive skill set she has and also what she brings to this team defensively. She’s only going to continue to elevate her game.”

Lyttle, a 6-4 forward, appeared in 22 games for the Dream this season. She missed a total of 12 games—six due to commitments to Spain’s national team and six more with a back injury. Lyttle averaged 10.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game during the regular season. A two-time WNBA All-Defensive Second Team selection, Lyttle led the WNBA in steals this season.

“More than anything I am excited,” said Lyttle. “It’s nice to know I will be part of this franchise’s future as we continue to build our team and contend for a championship.”

In her seven seasons in the WNBA, Lyttle is averaging 8.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She was originally drafted by the Houston Comets with the fifth overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft and played four seasons in Houston before being selected by the Dream in the 2008 dispersal draft. In three seasons with the Dream, Lyttle has averaged double figures every year and was selected to compete in the 2010 WNBA “Stars at the Sun” All-Star event.

A member of the Spanish national team, Lyttle helped lead Spain to a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championships for Women. She was named to the “Top Five” All-Tournament Team for her play. Lyttle also helped Perfumerias Avenida (Salamanca, Spain) to the 2011 EuroLeague and Spanish League Championship. She will play for Ciudad Ros Casares in Valencia, Spain during the 2011-12 Spanish League season.

The Atlanta Dream is in its fourth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Dream, the defending Eastern Conference Champions, have advanced to the postseason for a third straight time in the franchise’s fourth season.
