Sancho Lyttle Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Aug. 27, 2012 – Atlanta Dream forward Sancho Lyttle was named the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week presented by Boost Mobile for regular season games played August 20-26, the league office announced Monday.

Lyttle led the Dream to a 2-1 record for the week, including wins over Eastern Conference rivals Chicago and Washington. In the process, she led Atlanta in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg), and steals (2.7 apg) during the three games, while also averaging 3.7 assists. She ranked second in the East in steals, third in scoring, and fourth in rebounds, free throw percentage (.889), and minutes (34.3 mpg).

Lyttle opened the week with 24 points at Chicago, where she also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and recorded one blocked shot. She then notched 14 points, six boards, four assists and three steals at Washington on the first night of back-to-back games, and followed that up with another 14 points, nine rebounds and four steals against Minnesota.

It marked the second time in her career that Lyttle has received a conference player of the week award, with her other honor coming in August of 2009. It is the second time an Atlanta Dream player earned the award this season, as Angel McCoughtry won the recipient on July 2.

Los Angeles Sparks guard Kristi Toliver was named the Western Conference Player of the Week.

Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week presented by Boost Mobile were Indiana’s Katie Douglas, New York’s Cappie Pondexter, and Washington’s Crystal Langhorne in the East, and, in the West, Minnesota’s Rebekkah Brunson, San Antonio’s Danielle Robinson, Seattle’s Camille Little, and Tulsa’s Roneeka Hodges.

The Atlanta Dream, now in its fifth season in the WNBA, is the two-time defending Eastern Conference Champion. The Dream’s next home game is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. against the Tulsa Shock.
