Overseas Update - April 15
Matee Ajavon – Mersin (Turkey): Ajavon ended her overseas season on March 22, scoring seven points with a pair of assists during a 70-63 loss to Canik Bld. In 25 games in the Turkish League season, Ajavon averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Also this season in 10 EuroCup competitions, she averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals.
Nadia Gomes Colhado – Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife dropped Game 1 of its league finals falling to Americana by a score of 62-55 on April 12. Game 2 is scheduled for April 19 and Game 3, if necessary, will be played on April 21. In the Game 1 loss, Colhado had two points and four rebounds. In 17 total games this season for Sport Recife, Colhado is averaging 8.6 points and a league-leading 9.1 rebounds.
Erika de Souza – Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife dropped Game 1 of its league finals falling to Americana by a score of 62-55 on April 12. Game 2 is scheduled for April 19 and Game 3, if necessary, will be played on April 21. In the Game 1 loss, de Souza had a double-double with team highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds. In 16 total games this season for Sport Recife, de Souza is averaging 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds, which ranks fifth in the league.
Celine Dumerc – Tango Bourges Basket (France): Dumerc and Tango Bourges finished in fourth place at the EuroLeague competition in Ekaterinburg, Russia. In the semifinals last Friday (April 11), Bourges fell to Fenerbahce by a score of 59-50. Dumerc had a team-high 13 rebounds from her point guard position in the loss, as well as two points and three assists. On Sunday, Bourges dropped an 80-60 decision to defending champions and host UMMC Ekaterinburg in the third-place game. In the loss, Dumerc had nine points, five rebounds and six assists, and she finished the EuroLeague season averaging 8.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 18 games. Bourges will now return home to continue the French League season. Bourges enters the final regular season game on April 16 with a league-leading record of 23-2, with Dumerc averaging 9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists while playing in all 25 games.
Jacki Gemelos – Panathinaikos Athens (Greece): After finishing third in the regular season in the Greek League with a 13-5 record, Gemelos helped Panathinaikos advance to the semifinal round of the league playoffs after sweeping Anagenisi in two games in the quarterfinals. Gemelos who had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists during a 77-74 victory to wrap up the quarterfinals last Wednesday (April 9), did not play during a 78-70 loss to Proteas in Game 1 of the semifinals on Sunday. In 15 league games, Gemelos averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Tiffany Hayes – Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife dropped Game 1 of its league finals falling to Americana by a score of 62-55 on April 12. Game 2 is scheduled for April 19 and Game 3, if necessary, will be played on April 21. In the Game 1 loss, Hayes had five points and seven rebounds. Hayes has played in 14 games this season, ranking sixth in the league with an average of 12.9 points, while adding 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest.
Aneika Henry – Homend Antakya Belediyesi (Turkey): Antakya finished the Turkish League season with a 10-16 record. Henry averaged 13.8 points and 9.6 rebounds – which ranked fifth in the league – in 21 Turkish League games for Antakya. Antakya had also previously finished the EuroCup regular season with a 2-4 mark for third place in Group A, with Henry averaging 12.5 points and 12.5 rebounds.
Sancho Lyttle – Galatasaray (Turkey): Lyttle helped Galatasaray become the first Turkish club to win the EuroLeague title, as her squad claimed a 69-58 decision against league rival Fenerbahce on Sunday in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Galatasaray reached the Final by defeating defending champion and host UMMC Ekaterinburg by a score of 77-70 last Friday, April 11. In that game, Lyttle had 12 first-quarter points before leaving with an ankle injury that caused her to miss the rest of the game. But she returned for the title game and sank 9-of-13 shots while finishing with team highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds. She finished the EuroLeague season averaging 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 14 games. Galatasaray will now return home to continue the Turkish League playoffs, as the squad has advanced to the semifinals and will play Botas beginning April 17. Lyttle is averaging 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 17 Turkish League games.
Angel McCoughtry – Fenerbahce (Turkey): McCoughtry helped Fenerbahce reach the EuroLeague Final for the second year in a row, but for the second straight year her team fell in the Final, falling to Galatasaray by a score of 69-58 on Sunday in Ekaterinburg, Russia. McCoughtry had 12 points and five rebounds in the loss. Fenerbahce reached the Final by defeating Tango Bourges last Friday (April 11) by a score of 59-50, with McCoughtry leading her team with 22 points and 10 boards. In 19 EuroLeague games this season, McCoughtry averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.9 steals. Fenerbahce will now return home to continue the Turkish League playoffs, as the squad has advanced to the semifinals and will play Kayseri beginning April 17. McCoughtry is averaging 15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.6 assists in 24 Turkish League games.
Jhasmin Player – Uniao Sportiva (Portugal): After finishing fourth in the regular season in the Romanian League with a 14-6 record, Uniao Sportiva advanced to the semifinals of the league playoffs after sweeping Boa Viagem in two games. They will now play regular-season champion Lombos Quinta in the semifinals beginning April 19. Player scored 38 points with six rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 74-66 Game 2 victory over Boa Viagem on Sunday, and is now averaging a league-best 39.5 points per game, while adding 9.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.9 steals per contest. She scored fewer than 30 points only twice in 22 games, including three games with at least 50 points.
Samantha Prahalis – ACS Sepsi SIC Sfantu Gheorghe (Romania): After finishing fourth in the regular season in the Romanian League with a 19-7 record, Sepsi SIC advanced to the semifinals of the league playoffs, but dropped Game 1 against top-seeded ICIM Arad Monday by a score of 74-55. Game 2 will be played Friday. Prahalis did her part in the Game 1 loss, totaling 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. In 28 Romanian League games this season, Prahalis has averaged 20.4 points (third best in the league), 5.3 rebounds, a league-best 5.3 assists and 2.8 steals. She also played in six EuroCup games, averaging 21.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals.
