Overseas Update - Jan. 7

The highlight of the week was Sancho Lyttle�s dramatic buzzer-beater that lifted Galatasaray to its fourth consecutive Turkish Cup title on Jan. 6, with Lyttle�s team defeating Angel McCoughtry�s Fenerbahce squad by a score of 74-72. Lyttle, who finished with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds, took an inbounds pass with just one second on the clock, turned and banked in the winning shot to give her team the title. Lyttle was named MVP of the final. McCoughtry scored 13 points for Fenerbahce. Click on the video above to watch the closing seconds of that contest and the ensuing celebration.

Erika de Souza � Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife has not yet begun its season.

Tiffany Hayes � Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (Israel): Hayes� team lost twice last week, dropping its season record to 2-8. In an 82-69 loss to Maccabi Ashdod on Dec. 31, Hayes scored 24 points, thanks in part to 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range, and added five rebounds, five assists and three steals. On Jan. 4, H.R. Le-Zion fell to Maccabi Ramat Hen, 74-55, despite 16 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals from Hayes. She is averaging 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals in 10 games this season.

Aneika Henry � Rivas Ecopolis (Spain): Rivas Ecopolis won its only game of the past week, beating Hondarribia-Irun by a score of 77-51 on Jan. 5 to improve to 10-0 in the Spanish League. Henry totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and is now averaging 8.9 points and 6.6 boards in the Spanish League. Rivas did not play in the EuroLeague last week, and remains 4-3 in its group, with Henry averaging 11.1 points and 9.0 rebounds in the seven games.

Laurie Koehn � Logan Thunder (Australia): Koehn scored a game-high 25 points to help the Logan Thunder upset the Adelaide Lightning, 86-59, on Jan. 5 to improve to 6-10. Koehn sank six of her 10 three-point attempts and also led all players with four steals. Koehn is now averaging a team-best 16.1 points in 13 games, and has made 50-of-104 three-pointers (48.1 percent).

Cathrine Kraayeveld � Shinhan Bank (South Korea): Shinhan Bank split two games last week to move to 17-8 in the South Korean League. In a 79-55 win over the KB Stars on Jan. 4, Kraayeveld had a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. During an 876 loss to league-leading Woori Sansae on Jan. 6, she had 12 points, five boards and three assists. In her 15 games with the team, Kraayeveld is averaging 14.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Yelena Leuchanka � Liaoning (China): Leuchanka did not play as Liaoning split two games last week to move to 13-8 in the Chinese League. For the season, she is averaging 17.7 points and 9.1 rebounds in 18 games for Liaoning.

Sancho Lyttle � Galatasaray (Turkey): Prior to its Turkish Cup victory over Fenerbahce, Galatasaray advanced to the finals with a 73-66 win over Mersin on Jan. 4, with Lyttle scoring 14 points. Galatasaray did not play in either the EuroLeague or the Turkish League last week. The team remains 7-1 in Group C of the EuroLeague, with Lyttle averaging 11.5 points, 8.0 boards and 2.1 steals in the eight games. Galatasaray is 10-2 in the Turkish League, and Lyttle is averaging 10.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 12 Turkish League games.

Angel McCoughtry � Fenerbahce (Turkey): Prior to its Turkish Cup loss to Galatasaray, Fenerbahce advanced to the finals with a 66-57 win over Ceyhan Belediye on Jan. 4, with McCoughtry leading all scorers with 22 points. Fenerbahce did not play in either the EuroLeague or the Turkish League last week. In the EuroLeague, McCoughtry is averaging 15.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.0 assists for Fenerbahce, which is 5-2 in Group B. In the Turkish League, Fenerbahce remains perfect with a 12-0 record with McCoughtry averaging team highs of 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in nine games.
