-- Number One Draft Pick Earns League Honors for July --

ATLANTA, August 4, 2009— Dream guard Angel McCoughtry has been named the adidas Rookie of the Month for July, the league announced today.

“It’s such an honor for Angel to win Rookie of the Month,” said Dream General Manager and Head Coach Marynell Meadors. “Not many rookies can come in and do what she has done. She has really progressed from the beginning of the season to now, and she’s beginning to find her niche within our offense and defense.”

In nine games in July, McCoughtry led all rookies in steals per game (2.0) and ranked third in points per game (10.2). She was nearly perfect from the free throw line during this span, making all but one to rank second among rookies (.944). McCoughtry’s then-season high in steals (6), along with her 20 points, came in a 98-95 victory over the 2008 WNBA defending champion Detroit Shock. In five out of the nine games played in July, McCoughtry scored in double-figures. Over the month, she helped the Dream to a 5-4 record.
