Dream Head Coach Michael Cooper to Make Limited Return to Sidelines on Sunday

ATLANTA, Aug. 3, 2014 – Atlanta Dream head coach Michael Cooper will make a limited return to the team when he joins his squad on the sidelines for Sunday’s 3 p.m. contest against the New York Liberty at Philips Arena. Cooper’s return comes 10 days after he underwent a surgical procedure for tongue cancer on July 24 at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta.

Cooper’s return is prompted by his desire to show support for the team’s Breast Health Awareness initiatives at the team’s annual “Dream Pink” game, which will include recognition of breast cancer survivors. Although he will be on the sidelines, Cooper’s return to coaching duties will be limited and subject to his doctor’s approval. His status for the team’s upcoming week-long, four-game road trip that begins Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Phoenix remains uncertain.

"I would like to thank all my friends and fans for all the well-wishes and support, and I am excited to get back to coaching," said Cooper.

"Coach Cooper is doing well after the surgery and is expected to make a full recovery,” said his physician, Dr. J. Trad Wadsworth.
