Dream to Unveil Mascot
ATLANTA, Apr. 30, 2008 -- In a special event at Zoo Atlanta today, the Atlanta Dream unveiled the team’s newest member— Star, the team mascot! Local youth packed the zoo’s Wildlife Theater as Dream President Bill Bolen and “Name the Mascot” contest winner, Jaclyn Edelstein, introduced Star to fans for the first time. Following the announcement, the entire Dream roster joined Star for an autograph session and photo opportunities with fans.
Edelstein, age 4, was one of more than 100 children who entered the Dream’s “Name the Mascot” coloring contest in April. Local youth were encouraged to color a drawing of the mascot and submit their suggestion for the mascot name.
From these entries, a committee selected four finalists for the mascot’s name. The nominees were: Dazzle, Dash, Dreamer and Star. The deciding vote was in the hands of Atlanta Dream season ticket holders, who by popular vote selected the name “Star.”
Star will provide entertainment at all Atlanta Dream home games and will also be available for special appearances in the community. For more information or to submit an appearance request, visit www.AtlantaDream.net or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Dream will tip-off its first regular season home game on Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. against defending Eastern Conference Champions the Detroit Shock. The team was officially announced as the 14th team in the WNBA on October 17, 2007. The Dream will be a member of the WNBA’s Eastern conference and play their home games at Philips Arena. Other Eastern conference teams include the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Detroit Shock, Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Washington Mystics.
