Game Preview: Dream vs. Liberty (07/27/08)

The Dream take on the New York Liberty in the final game before the Olympic break. This is the second of three matchups between the two teams.

The Dream are coming off an 81-75 loss to the Washington Mystics on Friday night. Atlanta overcame a slow start to make it a three-point game at the half. The Mystics outscored the Dream 25-17 in the third quarter and fended off a late Dream rally to get the win. The Mystics capitalized on four Dream turnovers in the final four minutes to seal the victory. Washington was led by Taj McWilliams-Franklin with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Izi Castro Marques led the Dream with 23 points, one shy of her season high, and six rebounds. Ivory Latta was the only other Dream player to finish in double figures, scoring eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.

The Liberty were also in action Friday night, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 69-68. Janel McCarville scored a layup with 6.4 seconds to go to give the Liberty the win. McCarville led the Liberty with 15 points and Shameka Christon added 13. Lisa Leslie led the Sparks with 16 points and 13 rebounds. New York has now won five of their last six games and sits in third place in the Eastern Conference.

The Liberty defeated the Dream 81-77 in the first matchup between the two teams on June 11, 2008 in Atlanta. Janel McCarville led the Liberty with 25 points on 11-14 shooting from the field and dished out seven assists in the win. Betty Lennox led Atlanta with 28 points and seven rebounds. Ivory Latta finished with 13 point and six assists and Tamera Young added 13 points and five rebounds.

The game will be televised on CSS and broadcast on 1230/1340 AM. The Dream will not be in action again until August 29 against the Connecticut Sun. Stay tuned to to find out what the Dream will be up to during the Olympic break.
