The Dream travel to the West Coast for a Friday night matchup with the Sacramento Monarchs at Arco Arena. This is the first regular season matchup between the two teams. They will face off again on July 22 in Atlanta in their final matchup of the year.

The Dream are coming off a big win against the Indiana Fever, 81-77, on Wednesday afternoon. Atlanta is now 2-2 on their six game road swing which will wrap up this weekend. Izi Castro Marques led the Dream with a season-high 24 points on 10-20 shooting from the field. Betty Lennox came up big in the fourth quarter, hitting three consecutive three-pointers to give the Dream the lead. Lennox finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Alison Bales added eight points and tied her career high with 11 rebounds. The Dream shot 44.8% from the field, 41.2% from three, and 93.3% from the free throw line. The game featured 10 lead changes and seven ties.

While the Dream are nearing the end of a six game road swing, the Monarchs have had the week off. Sacramento last played on July 12, defeating the Phoenix Mercury 105-97. Chelsea Newton scored a career-high 18 points and Nicole Powell and Kara Lawson added 15 to lead the Monarchs to victory. Ticha Penicheiro added 14 points and six assists and Rebekkah Brunson finished with a double-double (13 points and 11 rebounds) despite playing with a knee injury. Brunson is playing with a stress fracture in her right leg, which has been complicated by torn cartilage in her right knee. In other news from Sacramento, point guard Kara Lawson was recently named to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team which will compete for gold this August in Beijing.

Kristin Haynie will be battling her former team in Friday night’s game. Originally selected by the Monarchs in the first round of the 2005 WNBA Draft, Haynie spent her first three seasons in Sacramento, where she saw substantial minutes backing up veteran point guard Ticha Penicheiro.

Dream fans can tune in to 1230/1340 AM for live play-by-play. The Dream close out their long road stretch against the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday night. The team returns home on July 22 for “Kids Day” at Philips Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 am against the Sacramento Monarchs.
