The 2008 season was bittersweet for the Silver Stars. While personal and team successes were achieved, the team came up one series win short in reaching its ultimate goal: winning a WNBA title. The good news heading into 2009 is the Silver Stars have lost virtually nothing from the team that earned its first ever trip to the WNBA Finals. That's assuming center Ann Wauters returns to San Antonio as she recently said she would. On top of that, sharp-shooter Shanna Crossley is set to return after missing all of 2008 due to injury, and veteran guard Belinda Snell -- another long-range threat -- was recently added to the fold. Mixing in a couple of players who will stretch the defense should address weaknesses exposed in last year's Finals, but there are still aspects to improve upon. The adequate yet underwhelming rebounding skills of Wauters, Ruth Riley and Sophia Young leave San Antonio in the market for a glass cleaner, which the team could look for with its first selection. The Stars are technically without a first-round pick, but come close by owning the intial pick in the second round, which came by way of a deal with Atlanta.
