NEW YORK, April 2, 2009 - The Women's National Basketball Association invites all fans to two special events in New York City on Wednesday, April 8 in celebration of the 2009 WNBA Draft presented by adidas. The events will take place at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and ESPN Zone in Times Square, and will feature a variety of fun and interactive WNBA-themed activities presented by WNBA partners, including adidas, Kia Motors, and T-Mobile USA, Inc.
At both events, fans will have the unique opportunity to interact with and get autographs from the top women's college basketball prospects for the WNBA Draft, legendary WNBA Stars, and WNBA and college coaches. The first event will take place at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET, and the second will be at ESPN Zone in Times Square from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.
As presenting partner of the 2009 WNBA Draft, adidas will host the NBA Store event and showcase their assortment of WNBA and women's products. Kia Motors will showcase the all-new 2010 Kia Soul urban passenger vehicle as well as the Kia Borrego midsize SUV on 52nd Street and hold a contest where fans can guess the number of WNBA basketballs in the Soul. The fan to guess closest to the correct number will win a WNBA prize pack, including tickets to WNBA games during the 2009 season. T-Mobile brand ambassadors will be on-site distributing giveaways for fans.
At ESPN Zone, fans can participate in trivia questions and panel discussions with WNBA Draft prospects, led by Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman, and play a variety of basketball games including the Pop-A-Shot. A special auction will be held on WNBA.com, where one lucky fan can bid for the chance to have dinner with a top prospect at ESPN Zone in NY during the event, two tickets to the WNBA Draft, and a photo with the No. 1 Draft pick.
The 2009 WNBA Draft presented by adidas will be held the following day, Thursday, April 9, at 3:00 p.m. ET at NBA Entertainment studios in Secaucus, N.J. ESPN2 will provide live coverage and analysis of the first round while ESPNU and NBA TV will broadcast the second and third rounds beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET.
